No verdict on first day of jury deliberations at Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ sex trafficking trial

NEW YORK (AP) — Jury deliberations got underway in Sean “Diddy” Combs’ federal sex trafficking trial and quickly hit a snag. But, by end of day Monday, jurors indicated they were making progress weighing complex charges that could put the hip-hop mogul in prison for life. The first day of deliberations saw several notes from the jury and Combs and his supporters bowing their heads in prayer in the courtroom — but no verdict. The jury of eight men and four women are sifting through sometimes graphic and emotional testimony about the rap, fashion and reality TV impresario’s propensity for violence and his sexual predilections, including drug-fueled sex marathons dubbed “freak-offs.”… Continue Reading

Jury begins deliberating in Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ sex trafficking trial

NEW YORK (AP) — The jury has started deliberating in Sean “Diddy” Combs’ sex trafficking case. The panel of eight men and four women began their closed-door discussions Monday. They are weighing charges that could put the hip-hop mogul in prison for life. The 55-year-old Combs has pleaded not guilty. Jurors heard seven weeks of sometimes graphic and emotional testimony about Combs’ propensity for violence and his sexual predilections, including drug-fueled sex marathons dubbed “freak-offs” or “hotel nights.” Defense lawyers acknowledge that Combs could be violent but maintain that the sex acts were consensual.… Continue Reading

Jury sees more sex videos as prosecutors wind down case against Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs

NEW YORK (AP) — A jury has watched nearly 20 minutes of recordings of marathon sex events that prosecutors and defense lawyers have both cited as important to the outcome of the sex trafficking trial of music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs. The recordings shown to the jury Monday by prosecutors roughly doubled the time the jury has spent viewing the explicit footage of two of Combs’ former girlfriends sexually involved with male sex workers while Combs filmed the encounters. Combs has pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy charges. Prosecutors expect to rest by Tuesday. After a defense presentation, closing arguments are expected to occur Thursday.… Continue Reading

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs paid to hide Cassie beating video because he feared career ruin, witness says

NEW YORK (AP) — A former hotel security guard has testified that Sean “Diddy” Combs feared his iconic career would be ruined if the public ever saw a video of him beating his girlfriend in 2016. The security guard testified Tuesday at Combs’ federal sex trafficking and racketeering trial. Eddy Garcia told a federal court jury that Combs repeatedly made the comment as he was trying to buy what he hoped was the only copy of the video. Prosecutors say Combs’ persistent efforts to hush up the episode fit into allegations he used threats and his fortune and fame to get what he wanted. Combs has pleaded not guilty.… Continue Reading

Judge quickly rejects mistrial request at Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs trial

NEW YORK (AP) — A federal judge has immediately rejected a defense request for a mistrial at the sex trafficking trial of music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs. This was the first such request at Combs’ trial, which is in its third week of testimony in Manhattan. A defense lawyer said Wednesday that prosecutors posed questions to a Los Angeles Fire Department investigator which could imply to the jury that Combs interfered in the probe of another rapper’s firebombed luxury car. After a break, the judge instructed the jury to disregard questions related to destroyed fingerprint cards. Combs has pleaded not guilty to leading a racketeering conspiracy that relied on fear and violence to get what he wanted.… Continue Reading

NEW YORK (AP) — Rapper and actor Kid Cudi is expected to testify at the Sean “Diddy” Combs sex trafficking trial on Thursday. He’ll tell the jury about his brief relationship 14 years ago with Combs’ ex-girlfriend, the R&B singer Cassie. Cassie testified last week that Combs was enraged when she left him for a period of time in 2011 and began dating Cudi. Prosecutors say Combs was so upset that he arranged to have Cudi’s convertible firebombed. Combs has pleaded not guilty to charges that he oversaw a racketeering enterprise that controlled Cassie and others through threats and violence. His lawyers say the evidence doesn’t amount to a criminal racket or sex trafficking.… Continue Reading

When Judge Arun Subramanian told her she could leave Friday, Cassie glanced once toward the jury but never looked in Combs’ direction as she walked out of the courtroom for the final time. Combs has pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking and other charges.
