The sentencing follows Combs’ conviction in July for transporting ex-girlfriends and male escorts across state lines for drug-fueled sex parties, and crimes involving coercion, violence, and abuse. U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian rejected Combs’ request for a 14-month sentence, while prosecutors had asked for a sentence of 11 years and three months. The judge handed down his punishment by stating, “A substantial sentence must be given to send a message to abusers and victims alike that exploitation and violence against women is met with real accountability.” In his own statement to the court, Combs admitted, “I got lost in the excess. I got lost in my ego. I’ve been humbled and broken to my core. I hate myself right now. I’ve been stripped down to nothing.
