The multiple Grammy-winner says that the industry is in “complete shambles right now” due to years of reliance on an “algorithmic model.” That modern trend has fragmented music fans and disrupted traditional pathways for artists to reach the masses, which she blames for effectively killing the cultural phenomenon of the “Song of the Summer” in the process. She explained that platforms like TikTok, despite her millions of followers, make it difficult even for established artists to connect broadly, as content struggles to reach viewers amid an overcrowded digital space. Lizzo suggests that major artists should cultivate dedicated fan communities to foster genuine engagement,  praising Taylor Swift’s highly engaged fanbase as an example.
