Enjoy a classic film, Bicycle Thieves, considered one of the great films of all time, set in post-war Italy. There will be a short talk beforehand by Laura Boyes, NC Museum of Art Film Curator, and a discussion afterwards if you’d like to stick around. There will also be free popcorn.

The third Friday of every month, galleries in downtown Durham host exhibit openings. Besides the receptions, you’ll also find lots of musicians busking outside, and there will be lots of special deals at restaurants too. Reptile and Amphibian Day

9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

NC Museum of Natural Sciences, 11 W Jones Street, Raleigh

At this massive celebration of reptiles and amphibians there will be tons of exhibits and hands-on activities, including a tree giveaway (to replenish the woodland habitat for toads), an activity to help you identify copperheads, a chance to meet live lizards and lots more. This is the 25th year for this event.

 

Raleigh St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival

Saturday, March 16

10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

This annual parade kicks off at 10 a.m., and the Wearin’ O’ the Green Festival follows, with live music, dancing, vendors, food, kiddie rides and more.

 

Kite Festival

Saturday, March 16

12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Bond Park, 801 High House Road, Cary

Compete in free contests for everything from largest kite to smallest kite to best crash to most unique kite. Enjoy music and concessions. There will be an expert kite flyer on hand to provide tips and assist with repairs.

 

Children’s Festival

Saturday, March 16

11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Northgate Mall, 1058 West Club Boulevard, Durham

Bring the kids to Northgate Mall for face painting, balloon animals, a DJ and a chance to learn about events, clubs and camps for kids.
