R. Kelly Hospitalized After Overdose, Claims Prison Officials Gave Him Near-Lethal Dose Of Medication

R. Kelly was rushed to the hospital over the weekend, claiming that he suffered an overdose caused by prison officials giving him a near-lethal dose of medication while in solitary confinement. “Bureau of Prisons officials administered an amount of medication that significantly exceeded a safe dose and caused Mr. Kelly to overdose, putting his life in jeopardy,” reads the emergency motion court filing, which seeks Kelly’s release from prison due to fears for his safety. The incident caused Kelly to spend two days at a North Carolina medical facility. According to the court filing, the singer “takes medication for anxiety and to help him sleep, in addition to other medications.” Kelly and his lawyer are alleging mistreatment by prison staff, including denial of necessary medical treatment for blood clots in his legs and lungs. While prison officials are defending his solitary confinement as a measure to protect the convicted singer. (People)
