Hillsborough Art Walk

Friday, August 31

Downtown Hillsborough

The last Friday of every month, rain or shine, Downtown Hillsborough showcases its art scene with the Last Fridays Art Walk from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Explore art galleries, artist studios, fine jewelers, boutique shops and award-winning restaurants. The activity takes place mostly on and around Churton Street, between West Margaret Lane and West Queen Street. You can find a map and information on each participating venue on Hillsborough Arts Council’s website. Also at the event will be a free concert by Second Set.

 

Final Friday Cary Art Crawl

6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Downtown Cary

Once a month on the last Friday, Cary showcases its artists and musicians at the Final Friday Cary Art Crawl. Art galleries stay open later, and there are live performances at the entertainment hubs. Visit the website for a map.

Wake Forest Listening Room offers music fans a chance to really hear music in a quiet environment. The band this time, Christiane and the Strays, is a favorite in the Triangle.

 

African American Cultural Festival of Raleigh and Wake County

The African American Cultural Festival of Raleigh and Wake County is an annual Labor Day Weekend celebration of African American culture as expressed through art, music, dance, food and community.

Explore the work of visual artists in the Art Gallery Walk, music & dance performances on the Main Stage, browse a vendor marketplace, and take part in interactive family activities in the Family Village.

The Family Village will feature performances by storytellers, dance troupes, drum circles, and much more, as well as make-and-take craft tents where you can create something of your own to bring home.

In the Vendor Marketplace, browse the variety of clothing, accessories, jewelry, natural bath products, home decor and much more.

 

Wake Forest Unplugged

Sunday, September 2

4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

E. Carroll Joyner Park, 701 Harris Road, Wake Forest

Wake Forest Unplugged is a free community event that encourages people to leave their technology behind and connect with the community through games, activities and a free concert by Ellis Dyson & the Shambles at 5 p.m.  Take part in sack races, relay races, corn hole, mini golf and more.

 

“Pay What You Can” at Kidzu Children’s Museum

The first Sunday of every month is “Pay What You Can” at Kidzu Children’s Museum, so it’s the perfect time to bring the kids to play and to learn. Maybe “pay it forward” if you can.
