South White Street, Wake Forest

This is the first of the monthly Friday Night on White events in downtown Wake Forest. Have a beer from White Street Brewing Co., enjoy a free concert by Love Tribe and grab dinner from one of the many food trucks.

 

Longleaf Film Festival

Friday, May 11th, 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Saturday, May 12th, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

North Carolina Museum of History, 5 East Edenton Street, Raleigh

Film buffs should settle into the NC Museum of History Friday night and all day Saturday to catch as many of the films selected for this annual festival. There are also panel discussions and receptions.

 

2nd Friday ArtWalk in Chapel Hill and Carrboro

6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Locations in Chapel Hill and Carrboro

The second Friday of every month, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., head to Chapel Hill and Carrboro for an ArtWalk. Experience live music, food, activities, hands-on art demonstrations, discounts, live music and more. Light the Woods with Sound

Friday, May 11th, through Sunday, May 13th (and the following two weekends as well)

7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Dorothea Dix Park Flowers Field, 2105 Umstead Drive, Raleigh

This is the first of the three weekends for Light the Woods with Sound, and interactive light-and-sound art installation by local visual and neon artist Nate Sheafer. He’s created 384 neon light tubes that will hang in the oak trees, connected to a theramin, which is an electronic musical instrument controlled without physical contact. Each night of the installation will include different performers and musical themes. Food trucks will be on site.

 

Ritmo Latino Festival

Saturday, May 12th

12 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Town Hall Campus, 316 N. Academy Street, Cary

Ritmo Latino is a festival for the entire family, showcasing Latino music, dance, and visual arts. There will be music and dance on three stages, Latino artisans, craft vendors, a variety of foods from around the Hispanic world, and a large kids zone,
