Downtown Durham

The third Friday of every month, galleries in downtown Durham host exhibit openings. Besides the receptions, you’ll also find lots of musicians busking outside, and there will be lots of special deals at restaurants too. DIY Fest

10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Scrap Exchange, 2050 Chapel Hill Road, Durham

Watch DIY demos, try some yourself, take place in a clothing swap (not the clothes you’re wearing), listen to live music and watch little robots battle each other.

 

Record Store Day

Saturday, April 21

Record stores around the Triangle

Record stores throughout the nation are taking part in Record Store Day, when special releases are made available for purchase. That part isn’t free, but some record stores have special events going on as well. At Schoolkids Records in Raleigh, meet Kooley High and get an autograph, watch a performance by Why We Are Here Orchestra, and get swag from from Starr Hill Brewery.

 

Family Fishing Fiesta

Saturday, April 21

10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Jordan Lake State Park, on White Oak Beach Road in Apex

Fish for free at this event. No fishing license needed. There will be workshops on how to cast, how to fillet a fish, how to hammock camp, how to hang a bear bag, how to paddle a canoe and much more. Try samples of grilled fish and even win prizes.
