Kathryn Mohr is getting ready to share her next full-length record, and she’s offering an early glimpse of what’s coming. The Oakland-based musician has announced a new album titled Carve, along with its first single, “Property.”
The release details were shared ahead of the album’s arrival on April 17, when Carve will land via The Flenser. The project follows Mohr’s debut album Waiting Room and continues her work as a songwriter and field recordist. Much of the material for the new record was written over several years and recorded in the Mojave Desert, a setting that plays a quiet but important role in the album’s mood.
Carve centers on how memory attaches itself to physical spaces, and how feelings like love and grief can overlap rather than exist separately. The lead track, “Property,” reflects that idea through imagery shaped by a vivid dream and by Mohr’s experience discovering a hidden, man-made waterway beneath her city.
The album includes 12 tracks and marks a steady step forward in Mohr’s minimalist, atmosphere-driven sound.
