A shift is underway in how artists connect with fans online. This week, Stationhead confirmed it is merging with Mellomanic, bringing two fan-focused music startups under one roof.
The combined company will operate under the Stationhead name and focus on live listening parties, direct fan interaction, and artist tools designed to turn engagement into measurable activity. The move brings together Stationhead’s real-time listening rooms with Mellomanic’s fan data and community insights, creating a single platform aimed at deeper artist-fan relationships.
The merger includes new investment from Universal Music Group and Sterling Partners. Universal has also entered into a commercial agreement to use Stationhead’s technology, signaling label interest in interactive fan experiences beyond traditional streaming.
Leadership roles are shifting as well. David Rappaport, previously CEO of Mellomanic, will lead the combined company, while Stationhead cofounder and artist Ryan Star will serve as chief creative officer.
The deal reflects a broader industry push toward community-driven music experiences that happen in real time, not just on demand.
