Scottish singer-songwriter Jacob Alon has been named the winner of the 2026 Critics’ Choice Award at the BRIT Awards. The announcement was made Monday during a broadcast on BBC Radio 1, marking Alon as the first confirmed winner ahead of next month’s ceremony.
According to the award organizers, the Critics’ Choice honor is designed to spotlight emerging artists on the verge of wider recognition. Alon was selected from a shortlist that included Sienna Spiro and Rose Gray. The decision reflects a growing response to Alon’s music, which has drawn attention for its stripped-back songwriting and emotional clarity.
Earlier this year, Alon’s debut album, In Limerence, was shortlisted for the Mercury Prize, further raising the artist’s profile. Speaking after the announcement, Alon acknowledged the significance of the moment, pointing to an upbringing in a small Scottish town and the long path to national recognition.
The 2026 BRIT Awards are scheduled to take place on February 28 in Manchester, marking the first time the ceremony has been held outside London.
