Meet Homer, a fun-loving guy with energy to spare! He’s great on a leash, but would thrive with enrichment like tricks, puzzle toys, and brain games. In playgroups, Homer enjoys one-on-one time with female dogs. He likes to act coy at first, letting the ladies invite him to play, but—once they do—he happily bounces and chases. Mildly hormone-driven, Homer still responds well to corrections. Between play bursts, he takes “TV timeouts,” seeking people out for attention and scratches.
One of our volunteers took him home for the day. Here is a recap of the volunteer’s experience: “Homer readily got into the car and was a calm and respectful passenger. After a spirited game of fetch, Homer was ready to relax inside, chewing on his new ball, while we watched TV together. This very sweet boy then accompanied me on a walk, where Homer was able to show off his exquisite leash manners. He was rewarded with some plain chicken nuggets, which he took from me very gently.”
Although Homer is heartworm positive, it is treatable and not contagious. The Friends of the Wake County Animal Center have provided a $600 sponsorship to help cover the cost of treatment.
Homer is already neutered and is up to date on vaccinations, flea/tick prevention, and is microchipped. If you have cats, we recommend slow introductions over time. If you have children in your home, we recommend supervision between animals and children at all times.
Homer is currently being housed at the Wake County Animal Center’s Adoption Center and can be visited any day from noon – 6 p.m. If you’re interested in learning more about Homer, please reach out to the Wake County Animal Center’s volunteer matchmakers at wcac.matchmaker@gmail.com with the subject line “Homer, 265966.” Adoptions are first-come, first-served; you must meet with a pet in-person before the adoption process can be started.
