Ingredients
-
1½ teaspoons ceremonial or culinary-grade matcha powder
-
2 ounces hot water (not boiling, about 175°F)
-
1 cup milk of choice (dairy, oat, almond, etc.)
-
1–2 teaspoons honey, maple syrup, or simple syrup (to taste)
-
Optional: ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
1. Sift for smoothness2. Whisk to frothAdd the hot water to the matcha. Whisk in a zigzag motion using a bamboo whisk or small regular whisk until the powder is frothy and fully dissolved.
3. Heat the milkIf you’re making a hot latte, warm your milk on the stovetop or in the microwave until steaming but not boiling. Froth it using a milk frother, handheld whisk, or by shaking it in a sealed jar and then briefly reheating.
4. Add sweetenerStir your sweetener (and vanilla, if using) into the matcha mixture.
5. CombineIf making a hot latte, pour the steamed milk over the whisked matcha. Hold back the foam with a spoon, then spoon it on top for that café-style finish.
If making an iced latte, pour cold milk over ice and then top with the matcha mixture.
6. Enjoy!
