Freight Train Blues: AJ Ghent

Bring a chair or blanket and enjoy a performance by AJ Ghent (pronounced j-ent) and His Singer Guitar. His style can be described as fresh, nostalgic, electrifying and roots rock. This concert is the first of Carrboro’s four-part Freight Train Blues music series, which honors the life and legacy of Piedmont blues legend Elizabeth “Libba” Cotton, who was born in 1893 in Carrboro.

Fourth Friday Film Series at Golden Belt Campus

Golden Belt Campus, 807 E. Main Street Durham

SummerStage at Golden Belt Campus in Durham has lots of free events planned for the summer, including music, kids’ activities, and, the fourth Friday of the month, film. The films are curated by the artistic director for the Annual Hayti Documentary Film Festival. Tonight the film is Thunder Road. Read more about it on Golden Belt Campus’ Facebook page.

JAWSFest
All Weekend
Chapel Hill venues

JAWSFest is a Memorial Day Weekend tradition. It’s a block party in Chapel Hill, with lots of businesses participating, including The Baxter, Local 506, Rumors, Beer Study, The Cave, and Syd’s Hair Shop. The festivities include a dunk tank, jousting, a flea market, music, and, of course, a showing of Jaws, which they call the “greatest movie ever made” on Sunday at dusk, at The Baxter.

Wake Forest Listening Room
Saturday, May 25th, 7 pm
Sugar Magnolia Café, 219 S. White Street, Wake Forest

Enjoy great music in a listening room environment at Magnolia Roots Music Lounge, which is the downstairs room at Sugar Magnolia Café. There’s no ticket charge to see The Roman Spring on Saturday, but donations are encouraged, and go right to the band. There’s also some really great music there Friday night, the Charlotte folk/rock band Time Sawyer. There is a $10 ticket price for this one.
