Lizzo, Roddy Ricch and Megan Thee Stallion were among the winners of the 20th annual BET Awards. There were first-time winners in several categories this year.
Lizzo was crowned the best female R&B/pop artist, beating out Beyoncé, who had won 10 times in the category, including the last six years in a row.
Megan Thee Stallion won best female hip-hop artist, beating the likes of Cardi B and Nicki Minaj. Cardi won it the last two years, while Minaj is a seven-time winner of the award.
Roddy Ricch won the album of the year award for his debut record, Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial. It’s the second year in a row that a debut album has won this award following Cardi B’s Invasion of Privacy.
Ricch also bagged the award for the best new artist at the BET Awards.
The 2020 BET Awards, hosted by Amanda Seales, were held virtually on June 28 on CBS, BET and BET HER and featured standout performances from Megan Thee Stallion, Anderson Paak, Lil Wayne, John Legend, Alicia Keys and Roddy Ricch, among others.
