Eminem’s Publishing Company Files Copyright Lawsuit Against Meta, Claiming They Distributed His Music Illegally

Eminem‘s publishing company, Eight Mile Style, has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, alleging that the platforms distributed the rapper’s music without proper licensing permissions. The lawsuit claims that Meta reproduced and synchronized Eminem’s music across its platforms without authorization, resulting in billions of views of videos featuring the unauthorized music. The lawsuit claims that “Meta’s knowing infringement” represents “another case of a trillion dollar company exploiting the creative efforts of musical artists for the obscene monetary benefit of its executives and shareholders without a license and without regard to the rights of the owners of the intellectual property.” Eight Mile Style owns 243 musical compositions, including hits like “Lose Yourself” and “The Real Slim Shady,” and is seeking monetary damages and a permanent injunction to stop the infringement. This new legal action comes less than a year after the publishing company’s $40 million copyright lawsuit against Spotify, which Eight Mile Style lost due to a legal loophole. (Rolling Stone)
