The second Friday of every month, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., head to Chapel Hill and Carrboro for an ArtWalk. Experience live music, food, activities, hands-on art demonstrations, discounts, and more. Download a map to help make sure you don’t miss anything. 27 venues are highlighted on the map.

 

Friday Night on White

6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

South White Street, Wake Forest

Head to Friday Night on White in Wake Forest. The band, Sleeping Booty, will be performing, and there will be food trucks for your dining enjoyment. Beer and wine will be available for purchase.

 

Longleaf Film Festival

Friday, May 10, and Saturday, May 11

North Carolina Museum of History, 5 Edenton Street, Raleigh

Longleaf Film Festival brings a weekend of film to the North Carolina Museum of History. It’s free to attend but you need to get a ticket. The festival includes Movies-n-Moonlight, an outdoor block of films, outside in Bicentennial Plaza on Friday night.

 

Youth Fishing Rodeo

Saturday, May 11

9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Blackwood Farm Park, 4215 NC 86, Hillsborough

Kids age 3-15 can learn to fish and compete for prizes for the first fish caught, the shortest fish, the biggest fish, and more. There will be a free hot dog lunch.

 

Sertoma Concert Series

Saturday, May 11

7 p.m.

Bond Park, 801 High House Road, Cary

Enjoy the first of the Sertoma Concerts of the season. This concert features The Trailblazers, who meld bluegrass, Americana, folk and jazz music.

This is just what it sounds like. Nothing is bought or bartered. Everything is free. You never know what you’ll find. You can bring stuff to give away too.

The first Saturday in May is Free Comic Book Day. Many comic book stores around the Triangle are participating by giving away free comic books. Some have additional activities too, like artists doing sketches, and costume contests.

 

PeakFest

9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Downtown Apex

Celebrate the “Peak of Good Living” in Apex with this free festival. There will be live music all day, with The Embers featuring Craig Woolard headlining. There will also be entertainment like a stilt walker, balloon twisting, magicians and princesses.

 

Fest in the West

Saturday, May 4

11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

USA Baseball Training Complex, Thomas Brooks Park, 7445 Green Hope School Road, Cary

This annual festival in Cary features live music, dance, a pie eating contest and much more.

 

Durham Greek Festival

Saturday, May 4, and Sunday, May 5

11 a.m. to 8 p.m., both days

St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, 8306 NC Hwy 751, Durham

Enjoy traditional and popular Greek music and folk dance by adult and youth in authentic costumes. There will also be Greek cultural exhibits, travel videos, tours of the church, a fun zone for kids, and Greek food for purchase. Free dance lessons upon request.
